Mariner Neptune Fish & Seafood Company - Bringing Manitoba’s Freshwater Catch to Canadian Tables

When most people think about Canadian seafood, they picture the Atlantic or Pacific coast.

But some of Canada’s most important fishing traditions are found far inland.

Mariner Neptune Fish and Seafood Company is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, right in the heart of one of Canada’s major freshwater fishing regions. The company was formed in 1994 through the merger of Mariner Seafood and Neptune Fisheries and today operates from a federally registered 15,000-square-foot facility in Winnipeg.

Freshwater fish have long been an important part of Mariner Neptune’s business. The company handles both fresh and frozen lake fish, including pickerel, Arctic char and other Canadian freshwater species, while supplying grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, institutions and wholesalers across the country. Mariner Neptune says it serves nearly 1,000 customers, with more than half located in Manitoba.

That Manitoba connection matters.

Commercial net fishing has been part of the province for more than 150 years, with species such as walleye—commonly called pickerel—lake whitefish, sauger, goldeye and northern pike supporting fishing communities across Manitoba’s great lakes. Pickerel is so closely tied to the province that walleye was officially named Manitoba’s provincial fish in 2014.

Mariner Neptune helps connect that freshwater fishing industry with customers far beyond Manitoba. From its Winnipeg facility, the company sources, processes, markets and distributes fish and seafood to buyers across Canada, including products from Manitoba producers and freshwater fisheries. The Province of Manitoba lists Mariner Neptune among the province’s fish-processing businesses.

For Fisherman’s Market, Mariner Neptune represents another important part of what Caught Here. Bought Here. is meant to show.

Canada’s seafood story doesn’t stop at the coastline.

It includes the commercial fishermen working Manitoba’s lakes, the processors and distributors operating in Winnipeg, and the companies that help move Canadian freshwater fish thousands of kilometres across the country.

When you choose our Manitoba Pickerel, you are choosing a truly Canadian freshwater fish and supporting another part of this country’s diverse fishing industry.
