Caught Here, Bought Here: Wild, BC Spot Prawn Tails - 1lb Tub
Fisherman’s Market Wild BC Spot Prawn Tails
Fisherman’s Market wild BC spot prawn tails are trap-caught in the cold coastal waters of British Columbia aboard the FV Lulu King, one of Fisherman’s Market’s own working commercial fishing vessels, skippered by company co-founder and lifelong commercial fisherman Adam Pearl. BC spot prawns are one of the West Coast’s most prized wild shellfish, celebrated for their naturally sweet flavour, firm texture and exceptional quality. The commercial fishery uses baited traps, a targeted harvest method designed to minimize bycatch and impact on the surrounding ocean habitat.
This product is prepared right aboard the Lulu King during the commercial spot prawn season. The prawns are tailed after harvest, packed into approximately 1 lb tubs with seawater and frozen onboard the vessel, preserving the catch close to the point of harvest. Each tub contains roughly 24 spot prawn tails, giving customers a convenient way to enjoy this highly seasonal BC delicacy throughout the year. Freezing prawn tails in seawater—often called “tubbing”—is an established practice within the BC commercial prawn fishery.
Wild BC spot prawns are prized for their remarkably sweet, delicate flavour and firm, almost lobster-like texture. Their natural richness means they need very little in the kitchen—quickly sauté with butter and garlic, grill them, add them to pasta or risotto, or simply cook and serve with lemon. A fishmonger’s choice for customers looking for one of the finest shellfish harvested on Canada’s Pacific coast, spot prawns are a true seasonal BC specialty.
Please note: Each tub contains 1lb of prawns after thawing and contains roughly 24 tails per tub. Exact count may vary slightly.
