Fisherman’s Market Oceanwise certified sablefish is wild and sustainably caught in British Columbia. Our whole sablefish are on average 5lbs each.

Sablefish is a delicacy to be sure. It has a smooth velvety texture with large delicate flakes and is rich and buttery with a mild finish. The high oil content delivers a moist end result regardless of the skills in the kitchen.

Filleted, individually portioned, vacuum-sealed, and blast frozen for your convenience.

Our whole sablefish is sold in increments of 5lbs, which is the approximate weight per fish. The total price may vary based on exact weights at the time of pick up.

Due to the popularity of this sale, all online orders placed with sablefish could take up to 1 week to process.


It has a smooth, velvety texture and large, yet delicate, flakes. Nearly impossible to overcook. Rich, satiny sweet, buttery taste courtesy of the high oil content.

Sablefish pairs well with salty or acidic flavours which balance the natural oils of the fish. With the high oil content Sablefish can be bbq’d or smoked.

Cook Sablefish hotter and longer than other fish and wait until the fish is browned and flakey.

Sablefish has the highest amount of heart-healthy Omega 3’s, more even than salmon or tuna. Sablefish also contains Iron, Calcium, Copper and other Minerals.

Fun fish fact: the sablefish is known for its furry black skin. Even though Sablefish are also known as Black Cod, they do not belong to the cod family.
